<h3>
1. Number your book bins</h3>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfqtkr0IWgEZ6xyqypcsnq0NfuhR7fm_JOa5ti-8tZAPYTnaLUv25D-aFRLiP6fQTbNzYTQMEzSpP-soyDX42Niq76EV_IJ4nyvfpcJBtoJdqVMMnCedWIsqqM7oQhf6MZVzaWDtFwaS0/s1600/book-bin-vinyl-labels.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1081" data-original-width="1600" height="432" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfqtkr0IWgEZ6xyqypcsnq0NfuhR7fm_JOa5ti-8tZAPYTnaLUv25D-aFRLiP6fQTbNzYTQMEzSpP-soyDX42Niq76EV_IJ4nyvfpcJBtoJdqVMMnCedWIsqqM7oQhf6MZVzaWDtFwaS0/s640/book-bin-vinyl-labels.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used <a href="http://shrsl.com/2cu5g" target="_blank">Cricut Permanent Vinyl</a> on these book bins and numbered them for each of my students. Labeling the book bins with numbers instead of names allows me to easily re-use them each year! I prefer to use <a href="https://amzn.to/2Ze2yiO" target="_blank">Craftopia transfer tape</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<h3>
2. Label your supply caddies</h3>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPWgb4lUIQ_Sg9VAb5keI1v_wmH1c-p-p20KeZKuT3siXQZ5n5t2GlT1gSDAPTjL2KxpJYDCyz0xxn0TxhE8TJidAiCvVwyp5v0HAMNtXddt2bjgP5A0bHkAYhNU9jZF93asl9TLtb2qc/s1600/reading-toolbox.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1006" data-original-width="1080" height="594" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPWgb4lUIQ_Sg9VAb5keI1v_wmH1c-p-p20KeZKuT3siXQZ5n5t2GlT1gSDAPTjL2KxpJYDCyz0xxn0TxhE8TJidAiCvVwyp5v0HAMNtXddt2bjgP5A0bHkAYhNU9jZF93asl9TLtb2qc/s640/reading-toolbox.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
I got this supply caddy from Michaels and labeled it "Reading toolbox" because I let my students pick out items they need during guided reading groups. You can organize your reading, math, or table group supplies by labeling your caddies! <span id="goog_2090957815"></span></div>
<h3>
<span style="font-weight: normal;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-weight: normal;"><br /></span>
3. Never write the date again!</h3>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/B1yWjHHhthL/" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="876" data-original-width="1196" height="467" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTsMHXCYaTe0OuNxjGIHQMDQ9yO1RHwqmU7kG5E_mTccdvOzYCtPWdlMyR-Wjv-eOJamdTa3stgqzzeVte1sjFRVDHVyeZCEJARrSU8GQp7QOGM9Q3xrDNV_BOvapmKWKghEl93CW6Bww/s640/Screen%252520Shot%2525202020-06-27%252520at%25252012.25.56%252520PM.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This brilliant idea comes from <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/B1yWjHHhthL/" target="_blank">Sarah @positvely.reading</a>. She used vinyl for "Today's date is" and cut the numbers out of laminated cardstock. I'm totally doing this for next school year! </div>
<h3>
<br />4. Organize the pencils, erasers, markers, scissors, etc.</h3>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/HutchinsonHomeCo"><img border="0" data-original-height="1003" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXaV-lv_b1r0o9XiPTxLRdMH59BTYRbp0nPLprhyr7MjaiIox7pygcxSZ-4ggExVCCimYD6M9hrglrD8wVHo4djBQdA_iwrQVBKcXxi7QUUPZw086BqjtdtSlS6WhE66AXK2LtAWk58M4/s640/Screen+Shot+2020-06-26+at+3.44.50+PM.png" width="640" /></a></div>
Everything has a place! You can find these metal buckets at Michaels, and they are usually super cheap. Use your <a href="http://shrsl.com/2cu5g" target="_blank">Cricut vinyl</a> to make labels for sharp and dull pencils, erasers, colored pencils, markers, scissors. It's best to choose a thicker font so your students can read the labels easily, and avoid making it too wide so that you can't see the whole word (like the label for erasers).<br />

<h3>
5. Personalize all the things!</h3>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/keepyourchinupshop" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="903" data-original-width="1600" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBoXZQsBaXW_YtsdT35pSzGlioFFnygd7PgGwLKbqDSDhyphenhyphenODyn9ihVV-5QDGT_XtYWJeDhsPLIc_WglqmjuYGQgAscRxkzXKJmOEasCfvdHXrsl1WlqQs1SQAk4hFcaBzeSkE-QpJ9jGE/s640/vinyl-teacher-sticker.png" width="640" /></a> </div>
Personalize your school laptop, desk, chalkboard, classroom door... the possibilities are endless! You can usually find some of these pencil banners from Target around August, and create your own teacher sign. Everything looks better with your name on it!<br />

There is an incredible yet <b><span style="color: teal;">overwhelming</span></b> amount of information and new websites for teachers to use for building an online classroom right now. Teachers around the world are now expected to go digital and teach remotely while picking up new curriculums and skills across multiple platforms. Personally, I've had to learn how to use Canvas for my district, but that does not seem to be the most popular site. (Canvas is used more for college level students and while it has many features, there is a huge learning curve.)<br />
<br />
Before picking up Canvas, I was using Google Classroom. It's much simpler and <span style="color: teal;"><b>very easy to use</b>! </span>If your school is a Google school, then your students are probably familiar with logging in with their Google accounts. In this post, I will show you how to use a Google Slides resource from Teachers Pay Teachers in Google Classroom so that assigning work for your students becomes more manageable and efficient.<br />
<br />
<b><span style="color: teal;">Step 1. Make a Copy</span></b><br />
When you download a resource made for Google Classroom on TpT, you'll follow a link which forces a copy of a document. This will add a copy into your own Google Drive so that you can change and edit it however you like. It might look something like this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjW444v2oJsKNFTkuymmu5xg9QZp3XvnTNP7RwqaPaMHsELydxavjHoUPKMhYsJB7UbYFqgXJBhdThaKJCNZs7uT6bsKyFwJ5c0pRn-xMU5GsZIupnXnu5RyBWVn6zcCtze0NufKkLCPfM/s1600/Screen+Shot+2020-04-11+at+11.08.12+AM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="325" data-original-width="681" height="190" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjW444v2oJsKNFTkuymmu5xg9QZp3XvnTNP7RwqaPaMHsELydxavjHoUPKMhYsJB7UbYFqgXJBhdThaKJCNZs7uT6bsKyFwJ5c0pRn-xMU5GsZIupnXnu5RyBWVn6zcCtze0NufKkLCPfM/s400/Screen+Shot+2020-04-11+at+11.08.12+AM.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><span style="color: teal;">Step 2. Edit the Title</span></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now you have your new document open and it is probably now titled, "Copy of...." Click the title at the top and change it something that will be easy for you to search if you need to look for it in your drive. I might rename this particular one, "Fractions Assignment." </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: teal;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><span style="color: teal;">Step 3. Move and Organize</span></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next, you might want to move the file into a folder so you know where to find it. You can click "File" and go down to "Move" or click the little icon at the top that looks like a file folder with an arrow. (It's next to the star and to the right of the title.) I'm putting this document in my math folder. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDWxBXsQH2UpoGSyEGn1hMrdlYl3szaVWEwp1oVJIe1rcjTvZ-fGm0F-N7uK62T-OupXkZG0wvL0oDCpGqMGYWHsEP1Ptv89dC8rbFXbqrVf3c57phIuTHTnaN-xqU6F0LMoUXlwixiyw/s1600/Screen+Shot+2020-04-11+at+11.11.38+AM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Moving documents in google slides" border="0" data-original-height="349" data-original-width="356" height="313" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDWxBXsQH2UpoGSyEGn1hMrdlYl3szaVWEwp1oVJIe1rcjTvZ-fGm0F-N7uK62T-OupXkZG0wvL0oDCpGqMGYWHsEP1Ptv89dC8rbFXbqrVf3c57phIuTHTnaN-xqU6F0LMoUXlwixiyw/s320/Screen+Shot+2020-04-11+at+11.11.38+AM.png" title="" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now you're ready to assign this document to your students! This particular assignment is a 12 page Google Slides document. <b><span style="color: teal;">If I don't want to assign all 12 pages, I can delete certain pages so I have a shorter exit ticket assignment.</span> </b> For example, the first two pages of this resource focuses on equal shares. So if I have only taught about equal shares, then I might delete the other 10 pages and assign the rest later on. (Just go back to your TpT download and make another copy of the document!) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><span style="color: teal;">Step 4. Create an Assignment in Google Classroom</span></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In your Google Classroom, click the "Classwork" tab. Then click "+Create" and go down to "Assignment." After that, you can title your assignment and write directions to your students. Next, click the "Add" button at the bottom and select "Google Drive" to attach a document from your Google Drive. This will open up a window where you can select the Google Slides document you made a copy of from Teachers Pay Teachers. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh87_bLybmacEZWbN8xS5BRZ-2FPO5mYubCkoCy76A-WMPOpodAtVR5W1ZlBvgH_0ufYBGgn3y2tNIh807T7gstcNQKt3_mbb8nriQWk7ER5kr6-QaJB6t_kCjT2KBc7PHiK7k8T2Ysj8M/s1600/Screen+Shot+2020-04-11+at+11.16.46+AM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="289" data-original-width="203" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh87_bLybmacEZWbN8xS5BRZ-2FPO5mYubCkoCy76A-WMPOpodAtVR5W1ZlBvgH_0ufYBGgn3y2tNIh807T7gstcNQKt3_mbb8nriQWk7ER5kr6-QaJB6t_kCjT2KBc7PHiK7k8T2Ysj8M/s1600/Screen+Shot+2020-04-11+at+11.16.46+AM.png" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7_L4wEe27LzpV9Yx860YLnCSiT7GJUsV0By_VRtTqQuB1BgWamlaE8pwyrt2I-xzzsl2pSDUT9iz81jYtbjMCBUv5hJ6-n-MRbt19hSdmEFKoYhmbyyxPOJE3AdBdG1Hlv2GcCbev1Xw/s1600/Screen+Shot+2020-04-11+at+11.19.24+AM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Add an attachment from Google Drive" border="0" data-original-height="204" data-original-width="219" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7_L4wEe27LzpV9Yx860YLnCSiT7GJUsV0By_VRtTqQuB1BgWamlaE8pwyrt2I-xzzsl2pSDUT9iz81jYtbjMCBUv5hJ6-n-MRbt19hSdmEFKoYhmbyyxPOJE3AdBdG1Hlv2GcCbev1Xw/s1600/Screen+Shot+2020-04-11+at+11.19.24+AM.png" title="" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><span style="color: teal;">5. Making a Copy for Each Student</span> </b>(The most important step!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Are you still with me? We're almost done, I swear! Now you're going to click the drop down menu and <b><span style="color: teal;">select, "Make a copy for each student."</span></b> This will make it so that each student gets their own copy of the document with their name attached to it. You must select this if it is not a collaborative document and you want each student to turn in their own individual work. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLR1qIysv1lh7zBtFLNbwu4lWmygVmHzcT_83BbS44zMW-jYv7YWh5FTHqwsguvrykS3wK3tidLH9JtfRrl8K4XhziDezN9bXZ3VnBAlVyK1L6ih6NEeAXj7oxgre_0OSo3BHyjC5zJAI/s1600/Screen+Shot+2020-04-11+at+11.19.07+AM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="select 'make a copy' for each student when assigning work in google classroom" border="0" data-original-height="429" data-original-width="762" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLR1qIysv1lh7zBtFLNbwu4lWmygVmHzcT_83BbS44zMW-jYv7YWh5FTHqwsguvrykS3wK3tidLH9JtfRrl8K4XhziDezN9bXZ3VnBAlVyK1L6ih6NEeAXj7oxgre_0OSo3BHyjC5zJAI/s640/Screen+Shot+2020-04-11+at+11.19.07+AM.png" title="" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><span style="color: teal;">6. Assignment Details</span></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On the right hand side you can select classes or a specific group of students you want to assign the activity to. You can change the amount of points or make it an ungraded assignment, you can select a due date, organize the assignment by topic, and add a rubric. <span style="color: teal;"><b>Finally, you will click the "Assign" button in the top right corner. </b> </span>You can also schedule and create drafts which is a super awesome feature if you've already planned out your assignments for the week. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><span style="color: teal;">7. Student Progress</span></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hooray!! Your assignment is now posted. Now your students can click on the Google Slides document in their Google Classroom stream and begin working! When you click on "View Assignment" you can see the status of all the students who have turned in their work. Once a student has submitted their work, they cannot go back and edit it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjCs2kuBIUxVp_rkYEvGSrmXzs6i3983WouVbJi6rk-TsS6fISjBRGmSR1HfDo25U0Y11U0yaGpl1HoT8bfBRDkV6Q5SRXzUMh6WJ3clOh9s0a9ubJYd-dTcVFh6sDwqt0pVxXuoz7HEc/s1600/Screenshot.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="viewing student progress in google classroom" border="0" data-original-height="580" data-original-width="1058" height="350" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjCs2kuBIUxVp_rkYEvGSrmXzs6i3983WouVbJi6rk-TsS6fISjBRGmSR1HfDo25U0Y11U0yaGpl1HoT8bfBRDkV6Q5SRXzUMh6WJ3clOh9s0a9ubJYd-dTcVFh6sDwqt0pVxXuoz7HEc/s640/Screenshot.png" title="" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You can see from this screenshot that 17 out of 25 students turned in their work. On the left hand side, you can see that I graded the first two, but I have yet to grade the third student's work. The fourth student earned 11/12 points. (Student names and pictures are covered up for privacy)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: teal;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b style="background-color: white;"><span style="color: teal;">8. Grading Student Work</span></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Click on a student's work to open it up and see their assignment. You can give them a grade and add a private comment if you'd like. If the student made an error, you can add a comment on a specific page by clicking the "Add comment" icon on the top toolbar. <span style="font-family: inherit;">Happy first day of August! This month sadly signifies the slow down of summer as we begin thinking about the start of the school year. To start preparing, I thought I'd share some of my favorite products I've purchased from Amazon over the years that help my school year run smoothly.</span><br />
<h4>
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: small; font-weight: normal;">I've provided affiliate links throughout this post for your shopping convenience. I earn a small commission each time someone makes a purchase through one of my links. This does not affect the cost in any way. </span></h4>

<h3>
<b>The best <a href="https://amzn.to/2T07q7K" target="_blank"><u>pencil sharpener</u> </a>of all time </b></h3>
Five years ago, my teammate gifted me this pencil sharpener and I've had this same one ever since! It may jam every so often (like 2 times a year MAX) but it has never once broken. It has multiple settings for different pencil widths, and I know this may be an unpopular opinion, but I even let my students use it! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 stars, 10/10. Highly recommend.<br />

<h3>
<b>Make less copies, use more <a href="https://amzn.to/2yy4RQA" target="_blank">dry-erase pockets</a></b></h3>
These dry-erase pockets are amazing for small group work and repeated practice activities. Using these allows my students to re-use the same templates or worksheets over and over again with less copies and less hassle. These are great to use in math (slip in a <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Problem-Solving-Mats-4404223?utm_source=Amazon%20Favorites%20Blog%20Post&utm_campaign=Amazon%20Favorites%20Blog%20Post" target="_blank">problem solving mat</a>, ten frame, hundreds chart, math facts, etc.), for handwriting practice, or for word work! I prefer using the black ones over the rainbow colors because they look cleaner and then my students don't fight over which color they get.<br />

<h3>
<b><u><a href="https://amzn.to/2yxr4OK" target="_blank">Magnetic dry-erasers</a></u>: the solution to all of my problems </b></h3>
I've always used dry-erase boards and dry-erase pockets in my classroom for small group and center work, therefore I've always needed a set of erasers to go with them. My first year, I used old socks as erasers, the next year, I tried square felt cut outs, the year after that it was those facial scrubbers from Dollar Tree. Each year I tried something new and still was not satisfied. 😓 UNTIL... these magnetic erasers came into my life and I haven't looked back since. I love how they are magnetic which makes for easy clean up, storage, and great for sticking to your boards!<br />

<h3>
<b>Amplify student voices with a <u><a href="https://amzn.to/2YyW9QJ" target="_blank">karaoke microphone</a></u></b></h3>
I know what you're thinking... this seems like one of those trendy, shiny objects and not an actual classroom necessity. (If you're looking for something less ostentatious, <a href="https://amzn.to/2YlpEGG" target="_blank">this black microphone</a> is sleek but still fun!)<br />
<br />
I'll be honest and say that this was definitely one of those "Instagram made me do it" purchases. I had go get comfortable using it at first, and so did my students. They were always excited when they got to speak into the mic! I usually pulled out the microphone for "special occasions" like when we shared writing pieces we put a lot of effort into, but we also used it for singing (of course) and for sharing ideas whole group. It really helps my quiet friends get their voices heard!<br />

<h3>
<b><a href="https://amzn.to/2YDdGr5" target="_blank">Paper cutter </a>a.k.a. the ultimate time saver</b></h3>
This paper cutter is one of the best gifts I've ever received. Yes, that's right, I was eyeing this thing all year long and I wanted it so badly that I asked for it as my birthday gift! My only regret is that I didn't just buy it for myself sooner. If you're the kind of teacher who is constantly cutting out task cards, exit tickets, word lists, and all the above, then you 👏 NEED 👏 this. 👏 The blade can cut multiple sheets at a time and it can even cut through thick lamination!<br />
<br />
Alright, there you have it. Those are my top 5 favorite things I've gotten for my classroom from Amazon! You can check out some of my other Amazon favorites that didn't make the top 5 list <a href="https://www.amazon.com/shop/keepyour.chinup" target="_blank">here</a>. What are some of your favorite classroom purchases you've made from Amazon? I'd love to hear about what other great products are out there!<br />
<br />
Thanks for sticking around,<br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Ohhhh yes, an entire post devoted to the best state ever! I mean really, just Google search "<span style="color: orange;">Greatest city in America</span>." What do you get? Baltimore, MARYLAND. And which state is called, "<b><span style="color: orange;">America in miniature</span></b>?" None other than MARYLAND... and for good reason! We've got the ocean, rivers, mountains, the city, country, and the beach. What more could you possibly ask for from a teeny tiny little state? (The 9th smallest state to be exact!) As soon as I saw that the <a href="http://techieturtleteacher.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Techie Turtle Teacher</a> started a Maryland Blog Hop via TPT, I was ecstatic to get on this and collaborate with some fellow MD teacher bloggers!</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">My first grade friends are exploring measurement by different non-standard units. Living in the city, I had the luxury of being able to leave the house every day whether it was to go for a short walk to the bars (which all were in fact open) or head up the street to the park and go sledding. Of course parking has been and will continue to be a nightmare until the mounds of snow finally melt away. Believe it or not, there are still many streets here that have yet to be touched by a plow. People here have been territorial of the parking spots they broke their backs to shovel out, but come on guys, <b><span style="color: orange;">we're all in this together</span></b>. I think the cabin fever has got to us all. Hopefully, if you were affected by the snow this weekend, you were able to get out and enjoy the beauty of it all in some way.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Before all the snow fell, we read <u>The Snowy Day</u> by Ezra Jack Keats. Then we made magic snow paint and created these snowy day illustrations. <span style="color: orange;"><b>It was SNOW much fun!</b> </span> (Eh, eh? No?) Alright, well whenever I return to school, I know my kiddos are going to have many snow stories to tell me about. What better time to practice narrative writing? We'll be writing about our snowy days which will be displayed with our snowy day illustrations. </span><br />

Say that ten times fast!<span style="font-size: large;">This year our new principal created and introduced a school-wide fact fluency program that focuses on <span style="color: orange;">fluency</span> and <span style="color: orange;">flexibility</span> in thinking about numbers and the equal sign in all four operations. Going through the program, students are required to solve for missing addends and parts (or the whole) of an equation in all positions by understanding <span style="color: orange;">part-part-whole relationships</span>. The first few stages involve addition and subtraction beginning with fluency of facts within 10. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Here's a fact fluency freebie for your firsties (woahhhhhh alliteration overload!) that can help support understanding of the equal sign and finding the missing number in subtraction equations with zero. Cut out the pieces and have your friends match the missing number with the equation it belongs to. Enjoy! </span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">We had our first field trip to the National Zoo this week and the kids had so much fun! We researched <span style="color: orange;">gorillas</span> for our non-fiction writing this quarter and we were so excited to see the gorillas at the stinky ape house. (Although some of them were over dramatically gasping for air once we got out!)</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br />
Right after we exited the ape house, we got to see the orangutans walking across the O line. This was by far my favorite par</span><span style="font-size: large;">t. Of all the times I've been to the zoo, I've never been able to see this. So glad I got to experience this with my students!</span><br />

I'm currently at the beach in Duck, NC enjoying my last work-free weekend with this absolutely breath-taking view:</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1jqhKi1_cZ4OPPpZ5N2vNQq141WisHPPyk1gQHA_SkwCwxbmAskBb9Sd_w4rIYS_mGxZSGFRJkiaExVyUvBcFeju4_rbv28icSDvpFiBLmJugzMMZv4MsvWB1dWcM9THZjRhj9cPPL28/s1600/IMG_7477.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-size: large;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1jqhKi1_cZ4OPPpZ5N2vNQq141WisHPPyk1gQHA_SkwCwxbmAskBb9Sd_w4rIYS_mGxZSGFRJkiaExVyUvBcFeju4_rbv28icSDvpFiBLmJugzMMZv4MsvWB1dWcM9THZjRhj9cPPL28/s320/IMG_7477.JPG" width="320"></span></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Can you believe this place? It's <span style="color: orange;">beautiful</span>! My friend's parent's dream was to own their own beach house one day and they made it a reality a few years ago. Their home is like a jungle, and her mom likes to call it, <u>Where The Wild Things Are</u>. (Yes, she is a teacher!)</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">On a separate note, I just learned about the awesome Donors Choose Community, <a href="http://corkboardconnections.blogspot.com/2013/08/caring-classrooms-community-on.html?showComment=1440339073495#c5006374514593098597" target="_blank">Caring Classrooms</a>. It's such a great idea and way to get the word spread about new classroom projects in need of funding. I just donated to a project for a classroom to get a puppet show about accepting others' differences. How cool! I didn't know that you could create projects that weren't just for school supplies, books, etc. Anyway, that project has ALREADY been funded because of how generous everyone in this online community is. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I'm going to leave here on this high note and go get myself an <span style="color: orange;">acai bowl </span>(my latest obsession) before I make my trek back home to reality. Tomorrow is my first PD day and I (honestly) can't wait to be back in my classroom to start prepping for the school year! HERE WE GO! :) </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>

Where did the time go? If your school is like mine and they make you move classrooms each year, then I'm sure you'd agree that the packing, moving, and unpacking process is a huge PAIN. That being said, I'm trying to keep everything as simple as possible and I'm keeping the <b><span style="color: orange;">superhero</span></b> theme. Hooray! </span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Here are a couple things I already have for the decor:</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2dIiTfZZOplVLsMj6jtBeCxMvzRAsy1s2Xk3wMmUVH2-fk7q5LFs5em99okxCFBuZTEDd-USEwu3HQngw3236Yoy185w0y38J_EsKmNTAFhQNrErQaXnzqEot66Y69o-dZNxq9eWgA-s/s1600/Screen+Shot+2015-08-06+at+2.18.22+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-size: large;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2dIiTfZZOplVLsMj6jtBeCxMvzRAsy1s2Xk3wMmUVH2-fk7q5LFs5em99okxCFBuZTEDd-USEwu3HQngw3236Yoy185w0y38J_EsKmNTAFhQNrErQaXnzqEot66Y69o-dZNxq9eWgA-s/s320/Screen+Shot+2015-08-06+at+2.18.22+PM.png" width="320"></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Name tag labels for either the door or bulletin board.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">-<a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Editable-Superhero-Themed-Name-Tag-Labels-1978056" target="_blank">TPT link here</a>-</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
